Once Upon a Time

Back in the old days, the girls of the family were taking as dowry the land that could be cultivated, while the boys were taking the barren land. Due to these traditions “Adrakos” came to own the land where the present business is located today. It is a place which concentrates something really marvellous because of the energy of this land, the ancestors, the blue of the sky and the sea, the geophysical beauty and the sun’s warmth.

Here, in this place, the elements of nature are all combined together, the sea, the land, the fresh air, the warm sun.

Here is the place where “Adrakos” was working, who was the father of the present owner of the business, who is Kostis Menegakis. The word “Adrakos”, which was a nickname,”adraklas”, as it is also said, comes from the cretan dialect and chracterizes a brave man in mind and soul, and majestic as the view of his beloved land.

Here was the land where he was bringing his flock to be fed, his pasture land. His livestock was as important for him as the people. It was important for him to feed the animals with the saltiness of the sea, so their meat will be extremely tasteful.

Everything
begins with an
idea.

Maybe not even with an idea, maybe with an emotion that gives rise to an idea. A very strong emotion of pure happiness, gratidute, joy of sharing  and of a deep sense of self-consciousness of the here and the now. This is exactly how eveyrthing started, when the great- grandchildren of “Adrakos” began creating with their own hands. The boys, having a great adoration of their roots, they used excavating materials for the making of the hotel’s and the restaurant’s facilities from their land and from “Kalos Lakkos”, the land their great-grandfather comes from. All this happened because they wanted to keep their precious connection with their ancestors but also to blend their creations with the natural beauty of the landscape.

They kept creating and building on their land with deference, having always in their mind that their ancestors are watching them with pride and happiness. In the meanwhile, 18 years ago the spot of the rooftop was the most abandoned in the whole place, until Anna, Kosti’s wife showed up. When they first met, Anna was visiting very often the whole place and it was her most favourite thing  to stand in this specific spot, in which the biggest area of the Terrassa restaurant sprawls. She was finding herself travelling and getting lost in this place.

The story of Terrassa is a beautiful combination of a glorious past and a favorable future.

Terrassa means rooftop in Catalan. In this rooftop, you can feel all the contradictions the cretan culture has.
